Rubber Stamp Piecing & Water Coloring Cards Technique

Hello Bloggers! it's Friday.... I can't believe it. So excited for Monday to get here so we can head to the bay area for some fun photography.

I discovered a really fun new way to use my stamps, it's called piecing and then I tried water coloring them instead of using markers to color in the lines such as Copic ciao. I found the water coloring a lot of fun and easier with wonderful results.

When my kids were young I was very addicted to stamping and card making. Just before we moved into this house almost 9 years ago now (hard to believe), I got rid of almost every stamp I had. So guess what I have been, shopping for stamps and dies to use in my big Shot and Big Kick. I buy a little here and little there and it all adds up to lots of $.

This is a little bit addicting as I stated above, it takes some concentration and a steady hand and some imagination but it's pretty easy once you get going.

Here is basically how you do this technique. It's would be really fun to do with small kids and older ones. Smaller children would need help but would enjoy the process and fun.

Finished Card

First you will need these supplies:
Rubber Stamps: I used -
Ranger Black Jet Black Ink
Black Embossing Powder
Embossing Heat Gun
Perma Tac
Black Copic Marker
Tim Holtz Distress Inks
Colored Pencils
Hero Arts Wet Cement mid-tone ink
Paint Brushes
Twinkling H20's
XActo Precision No. 1 Knife
Scotch Dots
Doodle Twine
Green Folded Card with Envelope
Hole Punch
small cup water for painting

Step 1. stamp your image with Ranger Black Jet Black Ink

Step 2. Add embossing powder all over the stamp image while ink is still wet

Step 3. Emboss your image with black embossing powder and your heat gun until the embossing powder is shiny.
This image is a little blurred but it will get cut way later so no need to worry if that happens as long as it is not to badly blurred.

Step 4. Get your little cup of water and put your paint brush into the water, for painting you can use the colored pencils, H20 Twinkling and the Tim Holtz Distress Inks. Personally I found that painting with the colored pencils and H20 was the easiest method. Dip the brush into the water and then onto the colored pencils to color of the pencils will go right onto the brush. I love the H20 colors they are so bright and cheery

Step 5. Cut out your painted image with small precise scissors you may need your XActo knife to cut area in the center. After your done cutting all around the image you can touch up any areas that are showing white and a bit frayed looking with your black Copic marker. This will give you a nice clean looking image.

Try mixing your colors to get the effect you want and also for shading.

Step 6. Get out your second stamp and stamp the image onto the tag. I used the wet cement ink.
I only stamped part of the image since that is all that would fit onto the tag. Decide what area you want on the tag if you have a large stamp like I use and then stamp.

Step 7. After you have stamped your image onto the tag, decide where you want it placed on the card. Then punch a hole with the hole puncher in the top layer of the card only right where the hole shows through on the tag. Add the Perma Tac to the back of the tag and attach to the front of the card, be careful to get it strait before it touches the card or it will stick right away before you have centered it.
Run some Doodle Twine through the hole and tie into a bow.
Add the Scotch Dots to the back of the stamped and painted image and place onto the tag where you would like it to be. I placed mine so that the butterfly shows and the words (you are so beautiful to me).

Step 8. Add any other embellishments you want to the card. Write your message in the card place in the envelope if it fits and give to your recipient.

Will you be trying this technique? if you have already tried it did you enjoy it?

I hope you have a great weekend! I will be back next week with some lighthouse photos of the Northern Coast of California.

Sunday Musings

Lake Tahoe Sundown 2005

The weather is great, it's nice and warm and perhaps to warm so quickly. The snow capped mountains are prestigious in the sunlight after a long rainy cold March and the early April snow storms.
I remember when I was 15 years old I went on a back packing trip with my summer school science class up to the Sierra Mountains. There were about 22 of us and several chaperones if you could call them that....It was good for my parents that I was in the mood for behaving because those chaperones were not doing their job.
It was early July 1974. We washed our hair in the freezing water with Herbal Essence Shampoo, that was the most popular shampoo of that time. On our hot hikes we would stop at all the snow caps and grab handfuls of snow to suck on to cool us off, even though we were told not to eat the snow and especially pink snow, something about mosquitos nest perhaps? Each day we hiked to new camping spots, our daily hikes were about 1 to 2 miles sometimes more. The spots we hiked to were not accessible by vehicle and you would never see these magnificent treasures unless you hiked in.
If you got hurt forget you were a long way from help. Well as it happens Zachary one of my class mates broke his leg goofing off and two chaperones (oh no! not two!) were sent out to get help, leaving no one to watch over the teenagers. Soon a helicopter came to get Zack and I never saw him again until fall. To bad he was pretty cute and to think the year before he liked me, but I was not interested in him until the backpacking trip.
As a lover of nature this was a trip I will never forget. For fun in the evenings we would sit and embroider onto each others shorts and bell bottom jeans our names, flowers and other musings. Sometimes we would have to cross dangerous areas to get to where we wanted to go. I don't know how I made it through two weeks! but the fact I was able to get away from my parents and get credit for two classes sure helped. I took a lot of summer school classes not because I had to but because I wanted to get out of high school as soon as I got there. Once I found out that through summer school I could get extra credits I was all over that.

Yes how I love the Sierra Mountains and all the memories. Next week Steve is on Vacation so we plan on taking several day trips and maybe one over night trip. It's gonna be so good to get out in the beautiful weather and nature. We are going to check out the Pigeon Point Lighthouse halfway between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Steve and I have nearly seen every lighthouse in Northern CA and several in Southern. I am keeping track and photographing each one. Last year we saw the lighthouse in Santa Cruz. We've actually seen it a lot of times only photographed it for the first time last year. Funny how you live near things and don't photograph them.

I played another joke on my husband today but it didn't work again. He is just getting to smart for his britches.

Have your little selves a happy week!

But all who listen to me will live in peace,
untroubled by fear of harm.”

Sweet Little Floral Rose Post Earrings - Funny Cat Story

Hello Bloggers,

It's been so very very rainy and today I see the sun out here and there, cold then a bit warm. Spring is taking it's time to get here.
Yesterday I saw a few tiny roses budding on my rose bush. I need to get everything fertilized but every time I think I am going to get this or that done in the garden it rains!
I have been all over the place with my crafting lately but these past several post I have posted about earrings and a cute little birdie collage pendant. Check it out.
Earrings I posted to Etsy.
Here are some tiny sweet rose post earrings - I really like these a lot along with the Dahlia Earrings.

Dark blue rose, violet rose, yellow rose, white rose, red rose and green rose. I have more rose earrings as well.

I made the little earring holders with my silhouette cameo which is one of the reasons I wanted it in the first place was to make up my own packaging. It's really simple earring holders but cute and quite perfect for the tiny earrings.

~My Funny Cat Story~
Yes I can talk about more then just crafts now and then. I really am a multi faceted person even though you may not be able to tell from my blog posts.
Last night I brushed my cat Tabitha, she has so much fur.......I mean a lot of fur. She is a 12 year old very fat kitty cat...when she walks her belly jiggles like a bowl full of jelly.
In any event I brushed her and all this fur came out which is good and because I love to tease my husband and I was in the garage I took all the fur that came out of her and put it in his work shoes, it looked like a rat in his shoe. He puts his work shoes on in the garage on his way to work each morning. Well I thought it would scare him but no o o o. He called to tell me why was my hair in his shoe? I said are you kidding me that is not my hair! the cats hair is grey and gold not blond. My mom thought maybe Steve was kidding but I could tell he was not kidding. I had two brothers so I am a bit of stinker sometimes when it comes to joking around and I can be a bit gruff as well which shocks some because apparently my apparent Sweet look is a bit deceiving to some. However this joke was mild and did not work. Poo!
 And here is my Tabitha.

Little Birdie Hand Stamped Collage Pendant

Here is a cute idea...a hand stamped bird collage pendant. I had a lot of fun creating this. I think it turned out cute, there are so many ideas swirling around in my head of what to do next time. I put a rivet on the metals to hold them together I riveted it on backwards though I think? Okay well that is the kind of things you do when you're learning something new. If you can't tell it's a bird on her nest.
Have a wonderful new week!

Hoppy Easter

Hello Bloggers,

I hope your family has a blessed Easter....

John 11:25-26
King James Version (KJV)
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
I Love Easter so much it's my favorite time of the year. Most people love Christmas but not me I love Easter. I love Easter because it is spring and Easter represents -new beginnings-. We are having a nice family get together I am hoping it won't rain, it's been so very very rainy the whole month of March and so far April has  been rain and a little sun. The weather has been in the 50's and 60's. I am hoping it will be at least 70 for Easter but we will see. I just went to the grocery store today and I had a big grocery bill of $298.00 for everything I am fixing plus the foods Steve and I eat. This all will last until next month except we will need fruit and veggies and fresh milk. Now I didn't think that was that bad of a food bill actually because I bought ham, turkey, cheeses, breads, rolls, produce, pantry,  my cart was full. Now the lady in line behind me wondered why I had so much food in my cart. Ha did she not know it was Easter? how much do you spend for holiday meals on your family gatherings? we are having about 10 people.
Monday is my birthday, everyone is working except my mom and I so I am going out with mom, she always spoils me so I can't wait till my birthday!
Okay it was a very busy week for me. My daughter and grandson spent last weekend with me and then everyday after that I was running. I finally had a tiny window of time yesterday and I made Morgan and Kayla a cute hand stamped necklace with my stamping supplies. I Love tools and I mean I really do love tools all kinds of tools, hand stamping tools, hammers, engravers, metal stamping tools of all kinds, scrapbooking tools, althouth I do not enjoy scrapbooking I love the supplies because I can make other things with them such as cards and all kinds of cool things. Of course I Love beads and supplies, sewing machines and all the tools one needs for that.
I made a few Easter cards... I don't yet have many stamps anymore so for my birthday I have requested several I have been wanting from Hero Arts. I placed an order with Simon Says Stamp for the stamps. They really have a lot of cute ones now a days that don't take up a lot of space because they are the clear stamps that lay flat, that is so awesome and easy to store.

I need a cloud stamp, I love clouds so I just painted some on. I have only a few stamps so I used what I had and I was able to find a tiny bird, flower.
They are just kind of simple really. I used the Silhouette Cameo to cut the images another tool I love.
Here is the hand-stamped jewelry I made this week. I am not a pro at this yet, but I am learning. It's a lot of fun but not as easy as one would think.
For Morgan, yes a bird you know I love them!
for Kayla
The scratches don't show with the naked eye all that much it's silver filled findings. I have a hard time photographing the hand stamped jewelry I have to learn how to do that.
Affirmation bracelet
Have a wonderful Easter I am going to be busy in the kitchen today preparing a head of time whatever I can get done before Easter.
